The Mining Environmental Compliance Group is responsible for issuing Authorisations for operational activities on mining tenements. The group is also responsible for remediation securities and ensuring operators comply with approved mining management plans.
Dealing with complex compliance procedures under Mines Act is one of the major difficulties faced by Mining companies in India.
The primary legislation is the Mining Management Act. Any company that proposes to undertake works that would cause “substantial disturbance” (see s35(3) of the Act) is required to have an Authorisation.
